Summer 2006 Update
New programs, fundraising information and other opportunities

A Family Affair: Team Leader Jen Weers (right), aided by her mother, Rhonda Doeden, and mother-in-law Linda Weers raises funds for JM Research at a Cure JM Garage Sale.

Dear Team JM Members,

We are not quite half way through 2006 and Cure JM is having another record year! Please take the time to read the research section. You will see the areas of research we are able to fund with your hard work and dedication.

Did you know that Cure JM is the only all volunteer organization committed to finding a CURE for juvenile myositis? If you are able to volunteer your time or have resources that would help raise money and awareness, please contact us.

Team JM Leaders

To guide this considerably large team, we recently established a Team JM Leader group of 12 incredible ladies that will lead our fundraising and awareness-raising efforts. This group consists of: Connie Radzwion and Beth Erickson (Co-Directors), Shari Hume, Jill Mickelson (Bracelet Manager), Jen Weers (Bear Hugs Manager), Lori Roszkowiak, Michelle Shewbridge, Colleen Scorsone, Nichole Strauss , Cyndi LaMoure, Jacque DenUyl and Maryalice Hackney. You will soon be connected with one of these leaders to exchange ideas and potentially work together on events.

Events and Ideas

Summer Days
Going into Summer months can be a bit difficult for a JM child. It gets harder to avoid the heat and sun exposure when all their friends are out playing. This is a great time to get the children involved in fundraising projects. We have ongoing projects like Reading for a Cure and Recycling for Research. What a great way to get your child to read and raise funds and awareness at the same time! This could help pass the time during the hot August afternoons and give them something fun and positive to participate in.

Marathon for a Cure
Have you heard yet about Cure JM's participation in the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon? Our team is made up of runners and volunteers from all over the WORLD! If you are able to attend please consider signing up as a volunteer. So far we have heard from a number of families that will be traveling in to lend their support and cheer on our athletes. For more information click here. I hope to see you there!.

As Cure JM is growing, so is our patient registry. When my daughter was diagnosed I wondered if we would ever meet another JM child. The next thing I know they seemed to be coming out of the woodwork! We must get more research in the works to find out the cause and a CURE for JM.

To learn more about what others are doing, you can check out Cure JM's scheduled events. If you have any ideas or are interested in holding or participating in events to help raise funds for JM research, please contact me.

Warmest regards,
Connie Radzwion

Vice President, Cure JM
Team JM Co-Director
